When being nice goes terribly wrong..
Sometimes people don’t want to be corrected. And sometimes helping people out doesn’t come off as helpful especially if you’re an introvert at the gym. See now, I am fairly new to working out at the gym. I spent most of the past year working out at home. So all of the machines and how to use them are a little tricky for me. But nevertheless, I’d still rather figure shit out myself than have a stranger tell me how to do it correctly.
Honestly, the way I see it is if you’re constantly working out 4 or more times a week, always in the gym and doing your very best to live a healthy life, why should it matter if you aren’t doing your workouts right?! As long as you’re putting in the effort and learning along the way not just doing shit wrong and not caring. I mean Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither is that “picture perfect” body you’ve been dreaming of. If you’re putting in the work, doing your research and most importantly SWEATING than really what else matters?
Plus when you’re not a friendly person, friendliness can be extremely uncomfortable. Especially when the gym is your happy place lol. You don’t want to feel judged or picked on at the one place where you are you’re happiest (if you feel this way trust me you’re not the only one.) I know that most people like to go to the gym to be social but for me that just isn’t the case. I go to the gym to work out not meet new people. I’m not trying to find friends or a man, I’m trying to find myself. I’m trying to find a better version of myself, not a better (or maybe worse) version of one of my exes, okay.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell if you’re doing your workouts right. You watch the videos on YouTube, do google searches, save tons of clips on Instagram and still feel like something’s off. Don’t sweat it, keep doing your sets and your research and you’ll get it eventually. Don’t let the critics scare you from coming back to the gym though. They may never admit it but they were just like you and me when they first started. There is so much to learn about physical fitness that there is no way you could possibly know everything there is to know overnight. So take a chill pill, 3 deep breaths and repeat after me “gooooss frabaaaa.” Now get back in that gym already!
If you have any questions about exactly how to do your exercises right, google knows EVERYTHING. Google or YouTube (which is also google btw) can help you out with any questions you may have. But don’t worry about anyone’s judgements of you and continue to go at your own pace. And don’t worry if you’re doing something wrong either. Keep doing it wrong until you learn how to do it right! I believe in you.
