The Importance of Meal Prep

The Importance of Meal Planning/Prep:

A concept I never really fully understood.. until now.

Up until recently meal planning seemed too time consuming, too wasteful, and too BORING. All those hours in the kitchen, girl, not for me! But over the past week I’ve noticed myself get back into my bad habits. Eating out more than eating in. Not even bothering with my microwaveable meals. Finding any excuse to dive into a McDonald’s drive threw and get me some nuggets and fries. My one cheat day a week turned into 4 days pretty damn fast.

There are two ways I could look at my cheat day increase. I could say to myself that I’m a failure and that I should just quit trying to be healthy despite everything I’ve accomplished. Or I could remind myself that I am human and humans make mistakes. Instead of wallowing in my failure I choose to use this setback as a learning experience. And to do that I have to be real with myself and uncover the reason behind this setback. Why can’t I stick to my diet?!?

The reason, I’ve come to understand, is because I don’t have a structured meal plan to follow. Meal plans are a great way to make sure that you stay on the right track. I’ve even incorporated my microwaveable meals into my meal plan as either a lunch or dinner.

Preparing your meals ahead of time is the key ingredient to ensure the success of your meal plan. That’s where the tedious hours in the kitchen make their way into my life (even though they know they are not welcomed.) The bright side of meal prep is that you get done all your cooking for the week in one day or night.

Since I still go by my one cheat day a week rule and eat one microwaveable meal per day, I am left with only 6 meals to prep for myself a week. 3 lunches and 3 dinners (I eat cereal or yogurt for breakfast btw lol doesn’t need to be prepped.) Below is a list of a few healthy meal ideas so that you can start your own meal plan! Let me know in the comments section if you’d like my recipe for any or all of these meals. Love ya, stay fit!

  2. Feta Cheese Turkey Burger w/ Spinach and Hummus
  3. Tuna Spinach Salad
  4. Grilled Chicken, Broccoli and Rice
  5. Grilled Chicken Salad w/ Fat Free Feta Cheese
