How Mindful Eating Can Help You Lose Weight
In a previous post I wrote about how mindful eating (or drinking) can help you to kick bad habits of drinking and/or drinking unhealthy foods and/or beverages. In this post I wanted to touch more on why practicing mindful eating can help you reach your fitness goals.
Trying something new can be hard and overwhelming especially when it has to do with physical fitness. Mindful eating is a simple and effective way to decrease your calorie intake without having to eat any less than what you’re already eating! It’s been scientifically proven that eating too fast can increase the calories you’re putting into your body. By slowing down, taking breaks between your bites and listening to your body you can lose weight more efficiently.
To lose weight you have to do more than just eat slower. Sure taking breaks in between your bites, resting and washing down your food with sip of water will help you to feel full faster. But then again, if you’re not listening to the signals your body is sending you, you might as well be eating fast! Listen to what your body is telling you. If you’re body is saying that it’s satisfied with the amount of food you’ve given it, STOP THERE! If not continue practicing your mindful eating.
Meditating while eating mindfully is another great exercise to start practicing. Like I said in my previous post on water vs. soda, envisioning eating what you what to be eating (while eating something you might not be as fond of eating) can trick your mind into thinking that you are eating what you want to be eating. Slowing down can also aid in that. In regular meditation we envision ourselves in our favorite places, may it be a beach or a field of sunflower, we take our minds out of where we actually are and into some place else as a means of relaxation. Why should meditating while eating be any different! Use the same mantra while eating and watch as the pounds melt away. It’ll be a pleasant change from the usual moaning and groaning we all experience while trying to force “clean foods” down our throats.
If you’re having trouble getting yourself on the right track, don’t be discouraged! We all experience these difficulties when trying something new or changing our lifestyles. Just don’t give up and continue to power threw!
